Walking the Mermaid became, in effect, Ignoring the Mermaid when my car was totalled by a truck and I spent too much of my 2005 writing time being pummeled by physical therapists.
The great structure ideas given me by ace editor Barbara Sullivan are now manifesting in a new opening chapter and a re-ordering of much that follows. The original first chapter is here to read but will be late in the story when the re-write is complete.

I'm not sure if I simply haven't accepted how much time a work this size requires, or if perhaps the pages and characters have become cherished companions I'd miss if I actually finished. I will finish. This calendar year.
